Working plein air can be surprisingly therapeutic, not least, because of the necessary time constraints the outdoors imposes. Just as with the nude, I painted this fairly quickly.

Painting directly from nature, one is constantly forced to assess and reassess the relationship between oneself and the external world. First sketched in pen and ink, the surface texture is visibly agitated, reflecting both weather and mood.
