Sculptural wall hanging Schinken Bälle (ball-shaped ham) made of Styrofoam and plaster of Paris, 2021
This piece represents an obsession with colour, in particular ham-coloured objects.
It shows imperfections, which makes each ball of ham unique - much like the obsession itself. Whether healthy or unhealthy, fascinations are intriguing to observe. Sometimes it might be down to the pure beauty and joy, sometimes something deeper such as avoidance. Avoidance of reality, emotions, things we should face and conquer but instead we prefer to dedicate our time to things that distract us from reality. Therefore, we should all embrace this piece of rawness as it embraces its own imperfections. What makes one enthusiastic about something or triggers them to become obsessed?
Each ball has been handcrafted and over layered with plaster of Paris to create its one of a kind surface. The creation took over 100 hours.
