In ‘Scarlet and Black’ the key focus was to show the imposing quality of the coffee pot; the perspective I chose enabled me to fill more of the canvas with the form of the coffee pot than if I was just looking at it from eye level. The bold form is further emphasised by the use of red, black and white. (This is a good partner to 'Eccentric')
In all of my paintings I never use black from the tube because it can drain the painting, instead I mix reds, blues and browns to keep the richness of the colours alive and in this case it enables other colours to show through the coffee put.
canvas primed with gesso, oil paints used, varnished framed canvas
