Acrylic and oil on canvas.
60cm x 60cm x 3.5cm
In this piece, I aimed to capture the first beam of light through the clouds, following rain. The welsh mountians in the distance draw your eyes across the craggy black rocks in the forground.
My paintings are often inspired by my love and fascination with ever-changing skies and cloud formation. I try to capture the movement and mood of the skies, land and sea - Calm and dreamy, to dramatic and surreal.
I study the skies over the Cheshire hills, close to my home and also the coastal skies over North Wales,
The sable tones are developed by layering and lifting the paint, to find previous hues and tones laid beneath, building depth, movement and highlights.
