When I saw a picture of a young Catherine Deneuve I immediately saw the potential for my roundism style. The challenge was to capture the cool distant look in geometrical forms, linking cubism to realism and impressionism. Fortunately the strong tonal bandwith in the reference picture offered the opportunity to capture lots of light and dark planes, creating her facial expression.
