I love how the ocean looks from the air, as you swoop in to land at your new destination, or as you return home from a welcome holiday. It's interesting how the coastline interacts with the ocean, and how the lands structures are reflected in the underwater shapes you see.
This series of aerial coastline paintings are based on coastlines across the world, and are painted using acrylic ink on synthetic paper. The inks take a long time to dry, and as they do I manipulate them with water and other coloured inks to create a deepening ocean and a matching coastal landscape. Over time I tip the inks back and forth, just like the waves of the sea, to deepen the colours as the ink dries.
Each of these artworks is unique, the technique means that no two pieces are ever the same.
These acrylic inks are vibrant and lightfast, and the synthetic paper super smooth. Even though these look like a watercolour, they are much brighter.
This piece is mounted in an acid free off white mount, ready for you pop into a 11x14" frame, I think they look really nice in white frames as it lets the colours pop, you can easily get a frame in this standard size. This piece will come wrapped in acetate with a matching backboard in case you would like to give it as a gift as it is. If you would like me to frame this piece for you please get in touch.
