Saint-Maurice is a narrow strip of ground stretching between the river Marne to the south and the parkland of Bois de Vincennes to the north. It is a place of calm and quiet avenues even though a motorway intersection cuts the commune in two and where the dreaded Marquis de Sade was once resident. A more peaceable influencer of Saint-Maurice was the romantic painter and printmaker Eugène Delacroix. He was inspired by African art and pointed down a road that many now well-known artists were later to travel by. He once said, "Colour always occupies me, but drawing preoccupies me."
This is an original relief print pulled from an engraving cut in rubber. The edition is 10 prints only. Please feel free to contact me to put a question or make a remark.
