Moody, mysterious and atmospheric. A unique etching.
This piece was inspired by the fabulous, windswept region of Rutland Water in the North of England. The water and air merge and vibrate, changing the appearance of the landscape with each moment.
In this etching the soft blues and greens blend with the dark and distant land. Delicate pink tones suggest the warm tones of sunlight.
Due to the everchanging light, I chose to create this series of etchings as a series of 'monoprints'; a limited edition of only 15. The etched plate is individually inked, as in a traditional etching, but more ink is left on the plate, allowing for deliberate variations between each artwork created. This method of etching creates a 'mono print', as each print varies according to the application of the coloured inks.
This etching was created using a zinc plate, aquatint (melting resin dust onto the plate with a flame, to allow the ink to 'grip'), litho crayon, acid and burnishing. The professional etching ink is smeared onto the etched plate and selectively removed. The image is created by placing the inked plate onto the bed of an etching press, with a sheet of 'Somerset' heavy weight, white paper, on top. The press is then 'hand wound', pressing the plate and paper together, transferring the image onto the paper.
Image/plate size 29 x 36.5 cm
Paper size 36 x 45 cm
This print is signed, dated, titled and numbered 1/1 (as artwork is an individual, one off 'mono print'). It will be sent to you carefully wrapped in tissue paper, in a sturdy cardboard tube.
