Original artwork description:

Russet orange oak tree
Hidden in the magical forest,
Of Penslewood, Somerset,
I walked with my ladies sketching group,
I saw the colourful tree in the field, through the hedgerow,
Painting in this beautiful nature reserve, in the morning light.

Words and feelings of a special nature spot on the border of Somerset and North Dorset.
Original impressionist watercolour painting on extra rough textured watercolour paper bockingford 425gsm 200lb.
Created on location I used my Chinese brush and a filbert. I wet the paper in areas and made a lilac wash and then added the russet orange pressing, dabbing to shape the tree while the paper was damp. I dropped in some greens and mark making with my filbert brush for the earthy tones of the tree trunk and shadows.
You can’t beat painting outside and seeing the true colours of nature.

Materials used:

Extra rough textured watercolour paper acid free bockingford 425gsm 200lb, Japanese watercolours, filbert brush, Chinese brush,
