Original artwork description:

colour sumi calligraphy inks on Nepal handmade paper, 19.5 x 14.5 in., 49 x 34.5 cm.
This is a real hit from my past. The winter of 1990-91 I travelled India and Nepal with my paints and fairly large paper , and I did plenty of interesting paintings out on location.
I visited these ruins in Southern India. At that time this was an amazing location to visit and stay some time to absorb the mood of the place, the huge stone ruins covering vast distances. This is one result of that adventure.
The paper used here is a traditional handmade paper I got in Nepal back then. The unbleached paper is a thick parchment paper, strong yet pliable. The edges may be uneven as is the nature of handmade paper.
My paintings in that period were done on location, without preliminary sketches nor any working lines on the paper. This is paint applied directly on a blank page.
The close up picture is to get a feel for the brush strokes of the painting.
