Original artwork description:
This is a plein air painting, painted on location on the Mendocino coast. Mendocino Headlands is a unique blend of gentle trails, rugged coastline, secluded beaches and the picturesque Village of Mendocino. Miles of trails wind along the cliffs, giving you spectacular views of sea arches and hidden grottos.
To accentuate the ruggedness and roughness of the cliffs, I used very thick juicy brush strokes, and applied a lot of oil paint with decisive short quick gestural brush moves.
Materials: oil on oil-primed Claessens Belgian linen on 1/8 MDF archival art panel, the back of the panel finished with melamine that prevents warping and deterioration. The painting is varnished and ready to frame. It slots easily into a standard 11"x14" frame.
