This portrait of a French street was painted on site in late summer in the Quartier Drapeau of the city of Dijon. Dijon is a wonderful mixture of beautiful old buildings juxtaposed with modern apartment blocks. Instead of painting the classic, historical buildings, I chose to paint this small street which has a truly village-like feel within the city context. It is this charm of Rue Brune that I wanted to convey, accentuating the earthy colours of the typical French buildings by refraining from adding strong greens and blues in order to keep the whole subject warm and cosy.
“Rue Brune” (Dijon) is painted on 650g, 100% cotton rag, mould-made paper using Windsor and Newton watercolours and it comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
600g Hahnemühle, 100% cotton rag, rough, mould-made paper, Windsor and Newton watercolour paints
