Roundism – 07-09-18
The second drawing I did of my Spanish model Julia Gómez Avilés. In preparation of the long pose for the pastel she did some stretching and almost dance-like movements. The result was the pose for this drawing. I like the extreme bend-over of her leg creating a whole different pose that I am used to get from live models. I try to mimic some circular movements of the body and connect them to the negative space around her. The result is rather clairobscur impressionistic but still bears all the roundism features of my own style. I wanted to let both styles touch eachother so the abstract roundism idea can only be interpreted through the impressionistic / realistic impression.
Graphite pencil drawing (Pentel 0.5 mm, 3B) on Canson Bristol paper (21 x 29.7 x 0.1 cm) - A4 format)
