Original artwork description:

“Rose Quartz” is part of a series called “Freedom in Constraint”, painted during the first six months of the pandemic lockdown. This work began as a series of small colorful studies that were done to lift the spirits, and then evolved into larger more complex paintings. They are meant to bring a sense of joy and balance to the viewer.

These pieces feature thick encaustic paint in varying surfaces from thick textured brushstrokes to glassy smoothness.

Encaustic paint is made from a mixture of beeswax, damar resin and pigment which is heated and applied in a molten state which hardens as it cools. The surface is richly textured and often the colors have a lot of depth to them due to the transparency of the wax.

Encaustic paintings are very durable, examples of early encaustic paintings date back to ancient Egypt. However they are sensitive to extreme temperature and like all paintings should not be hung in direct sunlight, or allowed to freeze.
