What is there about a babbling brook? I found this stand of trees, surrounded by a soothing green moss, on the banks of a running trout stream. There were actually fishermen pulling trout out of the stream - I've never seen that before. It was a slightly cool but beautiful spring day. The longer I painted, the more I was able to follow the shadows and get the shapes just so. It became a lyrical, mystical portrait of a place and time in Tennessee as the natural world came to life after a long winter. "Roots, Rocks, Trees" watercolor, 8 X 10" plein air.
