Digital painting on the base of a photograph.
I've created this one specifically for the 'Portraits from the Precipice' project by Artfinder and Octopus Energy.
The idea was of creating a portrait of nature itself, awakening and strengthening in response to mankind's destructive actions and at the same time a reminder that energy within a balanced ecosystem is ever renewed and sustainable - a lesson we need to urgently learn and integrate in our actions.
As a starting point I've used a photograph I took of a fallen tree; the roots of it, torn out of the ground and apparently dried reminded me of a figure, a guardian or forest's spirit. Working with that vision I've marked, tinted and repainted elements of the image creating this digital surreal portrait.
Nature lives, every element of it, every piece is an integral part of the vast, living ecosystem and even fallen tree passes its accumulated energy back into soil for the new ones to grow. In the same way, the life energy we embody is ever sustainable - if the way we live is balanced and in harmony with everything around.
We have a lot to learn, and it's urgent we slow down the civilization frenzy that brought about such radical climate change already and such damage to forests and animals. The answer is in our very roots, even if we lost touch with them to some point, the life, the nature inside us always lives and is always ripe to reawaken and restore the missing balance.
This is what this image stands for in my intention.
The work comes as a limited edition giclee print on the excelent Hahnemuhle cotton-fibre paper, hand-signed, numbered and titled on the front underneath the image.
Securely packed in an acid-free tube and insured for shipping.
