Rooms Can Speak Too
48” x 42”
2014
Collage: Marker, Pen, Gesso, Colored Pencil on Paper.
This drawing is my take on an excerpt from a detailed description from Upton Sinclair's Jungle. I used double and triple meanings to create a room that details a man's wish to escape from the demands of the real world, only to find himself trapped in his own psychotic frenzy (as reflected in the crazy depictions in the room). In essence, no one can fully escape from reality, and any excessive attempt to do so can be detrimental to one's psyche.
The original drawing is mounted on foamboard and is ready to hang.
This drawing is a part of the Social Critique + Lunar Lens Series.
