I always take a sketchbook on holiday, and even aboard a yacht there is always a moment and place to record something. Normally this is when we are at anchor, or I might have clambered ashore for a different aspect. In this painting the view from the land offers a wide space of sea across to another island. The tall mast of a distant yacht is hinted at. I enjoyed the interplay between the colours - the rich oranges and red ochres with the deep deep blues. The sketchbook came from a sailing trip to Croatia - the coastline there is full of islands large and small. A fascinating seascape.
The painting is sold framed in a contemporary tray style white painted frame, which sets off those vibrant colours well.
