Original artwork description:

In the South Lakes area of Cumbria whatever snow we get tends to be limited and short lived - a mixture of being close to the coast and sheltered by the many ranges of hills and mountains all around. However, there are exceptions and seasons where everything is covered by blankets of white. Evident in my work is the desire to venture off the beaten track and with this series I have painted areas that are close to me and my life in Cumbria but overlooked by the masses. They are slices of real life in a rural setting. As with other work these paintings have been built up in layers and a bold impasto style that reflects my desire to connect with the environment.

An iconic winter visitor - many Robins appear around the studio and the valley where I live. Originally a departure for me in subject matter - but which has proved to be very popular - these latest Robin paintings have been tackled in my usual impasto style. This painting is signed by me on the front and with the beautiful handmade frame leads the eye right into the work (frame shown is for photographic purposes but actual is very similar).
