This portrait was done using a mixture of Acrylic Paint and Ink on Archers Watercolour paper. When using this process I start by masking off the area that I want to keep bare or original. Then I draw the subject in pencil and when I am happy with the size, positioning and likeness I will define the outline with Ink. After this I will add thin layers of Acrylic Paint, on this picture I used a special piece of equipment that is a kind of block for thinning or erasing watercolours to thin and dilute areas of the background. I wanted to keep the original paper border because I like the effect of the print style window and also feel the original paper is beautiful! I have always liked pictures that allow you to see the original materials in their original state as part of the finished picture. This portrait was originally started as preparation and practice for the Sky Portrait Artist of the Year 2014 Competition. I was practicing with different sizes and working to a tighter 4-6 hour time limit that the competition allows. I chose this picture for practice because I thought the colours and tones would work well in Acrylic and Ink, and because De Niro is a very talented actor. My Artworks are usually built up slowly as I like to have time to look and consider the next move, time to see what is working and what is not. So after the time was up I was not satisfied with the result and had to continue with it until I was happy! Time limits make things very difficult!
A note to International Buyers:
Shipping rates have increased in price all around the world due to Covid and other complications. Due to this I have had to increase the the cost of shipping my artworks in line with the Delivery Companies. I will always strive to find the cheapest possible option for the customer (usually my local POST OFFICE EMS Recorded Delivery, but unfortunately they don’t deliver worldwide at the moment) If the amount of shipping charged at purchase is less than the shipping company charges then I will refund the difference to the customer. This refund will be done after the picture has arrived safely and has been accepted.
Any import duties, taxes and charges that may be payable are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges, if applicable, will be the responsibility of the buyer. Please message me to check if this might affect your purchase.
