The quality of October light in Venice was unlike anywhere I'd ever been. The clear skies and warm sun made all the colors glow. The evening sunset was magical as seen from the canal waterfront. In this painting, I wanted to capture the backlit yet glowing silhouette of the Basilica di Santa Maria against the sky.
