This artwork is inspired by the Japanese prints.
The “Rising Sun” features a bright red circle in the middle of a woodboard, with red - crowned crane underneath. It forms an amorphous blob of light that sucks the viewers eye into its magnetic center, mimicking its status as a condensed ball of energy. The empty sky is timeless and the single branch of a peaceful tree hints at the continuous cycle of rebirth in nature. Throughout all of Asia, the crane has been a symbol of happiness and eternal youth. In Japanese, Chinese, and Korean tradition, cranes stand for good fortune and longevity because of its fabled life span of a thousand years.
