Artwork description:

A view from the rooftops of Market Place across to Kirkgate and over to Ripon Cathedral.

The City of Ripon is situated near the centre of the County of York, in the West Riding. It stands on a slight hill, gradually rising north and south from the rivers Ure and Skell.

There has been a stone church on the site since 672, and today's church is the fourth to have stood on this site The minster finally became a cathedral in 1836.

It took me a long time to find the right view of the cathedral which incorporated all the elements I like in a picture with the rooftops and chimneys in the foreground, but this view finally had it all. I had been up and down ladders, even knocked on a few doors for access to their top floor windows to try and get the view I was after (thanks to those who let me in!)

Printed in more traditional colours the Cathedral stands proud over the streets of Ripon and can be seen from miles around.

This is a 13 colour, hand pulled silk screen print in A1 size. A limited edition of 28

Materials used:

Acrylic paints
