My work contrasts the speed of painting against the slowness of hand embroidery to explore the many polarities that we exist between. In our continuously divisive society I can investigate the tensions between these opposing states and ideas and look for a moment of balance.
This small study uses the undeniable materiality of paintskin across the surface to contrast with the illusion of space created by the painting beneath. I’m interested in the spatial tension created alongside the juxtaposition of fine art and craft/making processes.
It’s pictured in my studio on the wall with small magnets. My intention is that there would be float framed.
Acrylic, collage, paintskin, embroidery and reflective thread
