Artwork description:

This print shows the impressive ruins of Rievaulx Abbey, located near Helmsley in North Yorkshire. Founded in 1132, it was the first Cistercian abbey to be established in the North of England and quickly became one of the most powerful monasteries; at its peak in the 1160s its most famous abbot Aelred headed up a 650 strong community.

It's an original reduction linocut print, using just one block of lino and a process of carving away the lino between each layer of colour to produce the final image.

It is a limited variable print from an edition of just 8 prints using Clairefontaine Japanese Simili Printmaking Paper, 130 gsm and Lawrence oil relief printing inks. The printed area is 55cm x 70cm with a generous margin to allow for framing.

My linocuts are handmade from start to finish - hand carved, inked and handprinted, and as such they will have small variations between prints - making each print into a unique artwork.

As these prints are quite large, they will be sent packaged in a reinforced tube. If you have any questions, please just get in touch and thanks for taking a look!

Materials used:

Clairefontaine Japanese Simili Printmaking Paper, 130 gsm, Lawrence linseed oil relief ink.
