Driving along the Big Sur coast, I like stopping at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park and taking the path that leads through a tunnel under Coast Highway One. I soon reach the overlook, where I observe slender but dramatic McWay Falls tumbling a hundred feet from the granite cliffs into McWay Cove.
From the very first time I saw the McWay Falls, I was instantly attracted to a bright turquoise color of water in the shallow part of the cove, the greenish-blue rock shadow, the shape of which swirled to form an arrow, pointing at the waterfall, and the light violet shadow of the rocks surrounding the waterfall.
