This painting is part of a series of painting sketches I did for a larger painting which did not transpire. The paintings explored painting images of tree shapes and the forms of hanging beef as painted by Rembrandt and Francis Bacon, but without them looking immediately like hanging meat, just the form of the objects and a resonance to the figure.
Through these works the idea was to create a larger canvas of a wasteland landscape, filled with trees left to the devastation after a kind of ecological apocalypse.
The colours and the way they have been painted explore the expressionistic application of the paint and exploring the feelings associated with thinking about our current ecological changes going on in the world.
Overall these paintings explore form, colour, shape and expression.
