Original artwork description:

Most of my work involves taking selected pieces of text and imagery and moving them to where I see fit. While I have attempted to carve a book completely randomly in the past, I've never stayed on course all the way. With this piece, I have met the challenge... I only carved around items as they appeared organically in the book. While I was tempted constantly along the way, I promise you, I moved nothing.

This book sculpture was carved from (2003) Volume 1 of the Volume Library. These books are notoriously peddled door-to-door by young college students who've been lured in with the hopes of making big money on their summer breaks. My knives were ever so anxious to cut in.

The book is glued together well; pages are attached to each other. All paper surfaces are coated with a UV resistant matte medium to prevent the colors from fading later on if it's exposed to sunlight. I want these carvings to last for a long time.

It is signed (engraved) with the year on the bottom of the book, out of view.

A metal hanger has been permanently attached to the back of the book for easy wall hanging; just hang it on a screw or nail, or prop it up on a book shelf!
