The painting "Return to Orbit" depicts a phenomenon that I have observed among women who visit multiple stores in succession. I have noticed that they seem to enter a trance-like state, where they transform and distance themselves from their surroundings, becoming fully absorbed in their new images. For women, acquiring new things takes on a different meaning than it does for men - it is a means of mimicry and a magical way of transforming not only their appearance, but also their inner selves. The painting captures the slow transition back to reality after leaving the store, where the woman is still in a state of transformation, but not yet fully back to her original self. My goal with this painting is to convey this unique experience that women have when shopping and the transformative power that comes with it.
