My process of creating abstract expressionist-inspired paintings is a complicated layering of pigment using impasto, scumbles, and glazes.
Imagine. Have a dream. Be free. These are the most important elements in my work.
Each time I begin a painting, I am curious myself to see what will happen, and it is always a surprise. I’m fascinated by any number of ways of seeing from pure, detached observation, to total abstraction. I love to discover beauty and significance in subjects that might normally go unappreciated.
With my abstract work I try to contribute, in my own modest way, to the beauty, harmony, and general goodness of our existence.
The theme I most often revisit is the idea of an incomplete narrative, where something has happened or is about to happen, an ‘in-between’ moment, exploring the morphological similarities found in nature amongst discordant worlds and fields, including organic, topographic, cartographic, botanic, and geologic.
I like to think of my paintings as poetic, pure, and transparent with an element of mystery and depth for the viewer.
