Edges painted as part of the scene. Varnished, strung and ready to hang.
The letter and locket was a leaving present to my great aunt Ellen prior to the battle of the Somme 1st July 1916
Her sweet heart is depicted on horse back in the framed painting above her head and in the framed photo near the green vase. He was seconded from the North Irish Horse Regiment and the lilies in the vase represent that important calendar date while the fleur de lille on the vase represents France.
Forget me not
as shadows lie
and sun does slowly set,
As stars will shine
so bright above
I too shall not forget.
