This contemporary, abstract etching of dots plunging and fading into the distance, gives the impression of travelling towards the horizon, implying a feeling of 'release', as if bubbles or molecules are set free.
The etching was created on a zinc plate. I used the processes of sugar lift, stop out varnish and then an aqua tint, placing the plate in acid at each stage to 'burn' small pits into the plate, thus the design is 'etched' into the zinc.
Each individual print is complex to produce. High quality, professional, black printing ink is smeared across the plate (catching in the small pits created), and painstakingly cleaned to reveal each individual dot of the design and the light areas.
The image is created by placing the inked plate onto the bed of a traditional etching press, with a sheet of damp, heavy, Somerset printmaking paper laid on top. The press is then 'hand wound', pressing the plate and the paper together, transferring the image from plate to paper.
The three prints available for purchase are from an addition of only 25. The plate is inked and printed by hand for every print in the edition, which means that there are slight differences between each print. As a result, each print is a one off original.
