This oil depicts the reflections of boats in Sanary sur mer harbour. I love the abstract effect given by these reflections. This semi-abstact rendering is still exacerbated by the synthetic treatment of the subject. I started working on the 'reflections in water' theme a few years ago by painting watercolours of boat reflections in Mediterranean harbours, mainly Sète and Sanary because you find there a lot of old traditional fishing boats. I have painted altogether 12 of them, 4 of which are on sale on Artfinder.
Watercolours made in-situ in Sanary sur mer harbour were used as studies for this work. I painted it in successive glazes over a period of several months. In this painting there are between 6 to 14 very thin layers of paint, depending on the opacity of the pigment. This process gives a lot of depth and increases luminosity but it's very slow since a fortnight drying is required between each layer. In my paintings I always use extra fine pigments ensuring long conservation of the work (several centuries for an oil painting !).
It is ready to hang and sold with a certificate of authenticity, dispatched carefully packaged in a strong cardboard box and sent with a tracked courier, insured to the value of the artwork. (The photo with a frame is for reference only but on request it can be sold framed like that)
