As a recent immigrant into Czech Republic from Russia’s roaring 90’s, I express my moods and feelings of Prague in a still-life oil painting of red and white roses blooming within the gray. The colors of the bouquet in a vase, even though bright by themselves, fit extraordinarily well into a gloomy, dark atmosphere, while simultaneously transforming it, making it brighter, full of both dusty reminiscence of the old times, as well as of hopes of exuberant future.

This exuberant future also casts a positive shade on the past, turning what was not into what actually, truly has been, a refined composition of flowers shining its light through the metallic moroseness of the present.
