Artwork description:

A pier once stood in Redcar stretching 1300 feet out to sea. In Victorian and Edwardian days it was a place to see and be seen, somewhere to enjoy and perhaps discover romance. And while promenaders considered whom they might engage, they could breathe sea air, hear gulls screaming and waves crashing and glimpse the sea below their feet. A series of disasters befell Redcar's pier, including fire and collision and it was ultimately demolished in 1981. In 2013 it was substituted by an imitation helter-skelter tower, an indoor arrangement for visitors to trudge up and down 132 steps. If the age of romance has died then it's demise was due to what people have been denied and by what has been thrust upon them.

This is an original relief print pulled from an engraving cut in rubber in an edition of 7 prints only. Please feel free to contact me to put a question or make a remark. If you would like this print in a flat natural oak frame 9.5 x 12.5 inches at a price of £125 delivered, I would be happy to create the listing for you.
