This still life was painted in early Autumn 2019. The red onions were planted in our vegetable garden that Spring and had grow well. After digging I had laid them out to dry on a bench in front of a log pile. One morning as they lay there in the sun I thought they would make a good subject for a still life painting. The red blue skins had a translucent quality and they had both a smooth and flaky texture which I have tried to capture. The painting is on a linen canvas mounted on board and the frame is plain off white.
