Golden and liquidex pro acrylic colour, and pencil, on handmade Thai mulberry paper (kada sa), deckled edge, 9.5x 13.5 in., 24.5 x 34.5 cm.
The subject here is a fluid interpretation of Cattleya orchid blooms. Always tricky on this absorbant parchment paper, but nice when it works out.
Here I use is a traditional mulberry paper handmade in Thailand. It is a thick parchment type paper, strong yet pliable. I have the paper made to this size to get the deckled edges which adds to the textural effect.
The close up picture is to get a feel for the texture and brush strokes of the painting. Then there’s the work in progress and me with the painting for perspective.

About framing this painting.
When considering framing bear in mind to not cover up the deckled edges. This is one of the specialties of the painting, one of its charms. It is best displayed framed with a cut mat board around the painting so as not to cover the edges, thereby putting some space between the art and the glass and bringing depth to the framed art. It can also be framed simply with backing board and pressed with glass over the front without causing damage.
