The South Carolina marsh has always been a favorite subject. Finding this old, wooden, red boat was so perfect. Using a combination of brushes and a pallet knife helps contrast the smooth background areas with the sharp rough foreground. Running your fingers across the foreground grasses, you can actually feel the rough texture. "This is one of the joys of original art with strong brush work." This method helps the overall painting pop with color without losing the illusion of depth.
