This is one of a series of paintings in which I was exploring the idea of time and memory, placing an inanimate object in a suburban setting, based on a cycling accident inwhich I sustained a broken leg after being hit by a passing car one morning on a clear stretch of road, so the experience became part of the subject. I was also trying to introduce an element of the metaphysical into my work, that is to say ' something beyond the physical world, the nature of the human mind, the definition and meaning of existence, or nature of space and time, while acknowledging a spiritual presence.
