'Reaching The Light' perfectly captures British summertime, in which the flowers are blooming and growing toward the sunlight. This journey is greatly emphasised by the diagonal composition. Captured within a black frame, this painting immortalises the feeling of anticipation and the promise of new life in the form of closed buds, varied with the three open white roses. As the viewer, our perspective is placed beneath the roses, so that we are also able to appreciate the bright blue sky, as if we were lying down or had regressed to a child-like state. This painting is a beautiful reminder of innocence and youthfulness in its purest form.
