Sometimes you can pass an unremarkable piece of landscape many times throughout the year, then the next week it is suddenly and dramatically transformed, as was this scene when the rape was at its most vivid yellow. A week or two later, it is gone.
Christopher Witchall's landscape paintings capture the enormous open space and vast skies of the Cambridgeshire fens where he has explored, painted and photographed for 30 years.
His unsentimental approach to landscape combine traditional painting techniques with the realism and cool detachment of photography.
