I was struck by this scene, three people, possibly friends, hunched over cigarettes and conversation, outside a cafe. They were deeply engrossed in their conversation and I immediately thought they must be "putting the world to rights".
Composition wise, I loved how the main subject matter, the people, are grouped on one side, sort of ignoring the viewer, engrossed in their own world. It is almost like we are not included or privy to their conversation.
I also loved the rich reddy colours on one side, contrasting strikingly with the cool blueish colours of the other side. This is a technique inspired by the fauvists who would often put hot and cold colours together, directly side by side.
