Original artwork description:

Purple is special, it signifies power, royalty; purple is the colour of emperors and princes and so it is appropriate that the formerly alive artist formerly known as Prince (TFAAFKAP) called his 1984 album Purple Rain. As TFAAFKAP said: 'When there is blood in the sky - red and blue = purple ...purple rain pertains to the end of the world and being with the one you love and letting your faith/god guide you through the purple rain.' Heavy stuff. It seems that TFAAFKAP purloined the phrase 'purple rain' from the song 'Ventura Highway' by America, one member of which has absolutely no idea what the words meant. It could be, of course, that TFAAFKAP was under the influence of non-prescription kaleidoscopic medication causing him to observe a mauve monsoon. Whatever the case, this artist - formerly, and indeed, presently, known as Steve - having already done paintings called Purple Beach and Purple Clouds pushes TFAAFKAP's mauve-tinted meteorological genre one step beyond Purple Rain.
