In former centuries color pigments used to be precious and expensive, therefore painters used them with thoughtfulness and care. Nowadays they are rather cheap and affordable, so artists sometimes use tons of colors on their paintings. I am relatively reluctant with the amount of color I use. I prefer thin coats as I still consider color as something valuable.
