Proud Poulaines - an original acrylic gouache of medieval boots known as poulaines.

Dimensions - 24cm wide x 18cm high on 100% cotton 140lb watercolour paper by St Cuthbert's Mill.

I am enchanted by shoes of old such as these well-worn brown leather poulaines also known as crackows or pikes. They all have an elongated and pointy toe some of which lay flat whilst others curl bakcwards. I have also seen them called tulip boots so if there are any experts reading this I would appreciate a definitive description if I have got it wrong!

If you are a lover of all things medieval I hope you will appreciate the wonderfuly flamboyant floral design background.
