This etching explores Franz Kafka's poem Prometheus where the pain from the Eagle was so great over time that he pushed himself deeper into the rock until he begame rock himself.
The image is a mixture of a male figure and the observation of a rock collected from Cyprus. Through line and acid biting I have sought to replicate the form of the rock with its texutual quality, whilst gradually erasing the figure of Prometheus as he dissolves into the form of the rock.
The subsequent image becomes rock like in its mark-making, whilst retaining some elements of the Titan who was chained to the rock to suffer the consequence of giving fire/ knowledge to the human species. The mark gives the appearance of a rock form printed onto the Fabriano, yet this was achieved through drawing and acid biting using the Edinburgh Etch mixture and time.
