Here is another painting of tangerines done with pastels. This time, however, I used a mixed technique. I took advantage of the fact that dry pastels work well with some water-based materials. The key is to make sure the paper is moisture resistant. I had a piece of "Pastelmat" pastel paper that was suitable. It's not really paper, it's a thin cardboard. And this paper absorbs water well. I did the first layer of the drawing in watercolour. The dark blue shadows are just watercolour. And then I started the main drawing with pastels. Such a change of materials has its own game, its own pleasure. Well, and of course the use of bright yellow and orange pastels brought me great pleasure.
Now you can see three pictures in a row with mandarins. They are all done with pastels, but all the fruits look so different on them. Which one do you like best?
Soft pastels, pastel crayons, pastel pencils, Pastelmat
