For my Art in Support of Ukraine series I found my inspiration in the works of Renaissance masters. Renaissance art focuses mainly on Greek and Roman mythology and the stories from the Old Testament. These stories were used by patrons and artists to educate, manipulate, and persuade the masses. By creating an allegorical connection between well-known myths and current events in a painting, patrons were able to signal a desired message to the masses. Through these works of art, patrons were able to climb the social ladder and gain power and influence.
This painting is called Primavera. The image of Primavera is associated with spring, new beginnings, fertility, beauty, and growth. In this artwork the image of a young woman is a personification of Ukraine. She is portrayed as beautiful, determined, hopeful, and free, as Ukraine herself will be one day soon.
This is an original artwork, painted with acrylic paints. The sides of the canvas are painted and it's ready to hang. I always use 1.5" thick gallery wrapped cotton canvas for its durability and its 3D effect. The canvas is stretched over high quality pine wood frames and stapled on the back providing a clean finish on the sides. Since the sides are painted, the painting can be left unframed for the contemporary look.
