Karl Marx described Preston as “the next St Petersburg”. And like a Russian doll, in Preston there are byways inside byways. The entrance to Roebuck Street from Tulketh Brow is flanked on the left by the Mizfitz salon “Featuring Taullulah Rose” and on the right by “THE TULKETH High Class FISH & CHIPS PIES & PUDDINGS” shop. Adjoining Mizfitz's is a lock-up (bottom left of the picture). A sign on the door assures anyone who might be interested that “THERE IS NO ACCESS TO T.V. SHOP & NO ELECTRICAL GOODS ARE STORED INSIDE”. The brickwork of the house on the right is lightly painted in brick-coloured paint. Between those two buildings lies an unnamed way which makes a right turn along the backs of Ladysmith Road to join Stocks Road, while Roebuck Street continues on to a recycling centre, over the Lancaster Canal, past another hairdresser's, an aquarium shop, a playing field and finally a school at the corner of Inkerman Street. The whole place is full of interest.
This is an original relief print pulled from an engraving cut in rubber. The complete edition is 5 prints only. The sheet is 10½ x 15½ inches (263x394mm) and the image is 6½ x 9½ inches (165x241mm). I can trim the sheet to a particular size if you would like. Please feel free to contact me to put a question or make a remark.
