“Present” is one of a series of sculptures with clocks I have been creating under the theme of “time” intended to motivate the viewer to make the most of it before it is too late. This sculpture is about awareness. If one pays attention to the present and be in the moment and aware then the fact that we have no control on time becomes more tolerable. I added gold to the cracks to suggest that every moment is fragile. I was inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi which is used to mend broken pottery with gold to treat breakage as part of the past of an object.
